Brooke Shields thought George Michael wrote ‘Careless Whisper’ about her

Brooke Shields recently revealed that she thought George Michael wrote his hit song “Careless Whisper” about her.

Shields briefly dated the former Wham! singer before he came out as gay, and she shared the story of their breakup with British TV host Jonathan Ross. Shields says she thought Michael wanted to become intimate with her in the back of a limo when he abruptly ended the romance. “He said to the driver to drive around for a bit. I was like, ‘This is it, it’s going to happen. It’s going to be in the back of a limo and it’s going to be with Wham!’ And the partition went up and then he said to me, ‘I think we need to take a break. I need to concentrate on my career.’ And I was like, ‘Oh.’ I was so heartbroken.”

Michael went on to release his famous ballad “Careless Whisper” in 1984, and Shields believed he had written the song about her. She adds, “I went back to college, and when I heard the song (lyric) ‘Never going to dance again,’ I thought it was about me.”
