Sirius XM claims ‘Industrywide Conspiracy’ on Licenses

Last year, Sirius XM Radio drew criticism in the music industry for its decision to pursue direct licensing deals with record companies instead of dealing with SoundExchange, a nonprofit agency set up to process royalties for online streams and satellite radio. Now Sirius is suing SoundExchange and the American Association of Independent Music, a trade organization, saying those groups have violated federal antitrust law and “erected an industrywide conspiracy” to prevent it from making direct deals with labels.
