The Grammys reinstate Best Latin Jazz Album award, add new ones

The Grammy Awards have announced new changes to the awards show roughly a year after they cut 31 categories, a move that led to protests and a lawsuit by Latin jazz musicians.

The Recording Academy have announced that they will be adding 3 categories including the reinstatement of best Latin jazz album.

The two new awards are “best urban contemporary album” and “best classical compendium” which will shine a light on albums “involving a mixture of classical subgenres.”

This is a victory for Latin jazz musicians who’s category had been cut, forcing them to compete against all jazz musicians for the “best jazz instrumental prize”
