Noel Gallagher let it go right to the wire before approving the use of Wonderwall in the Olympic Closing Ceremony on Sunday. The former Oasis leader claims he had originally been asked to play the event but baulked at the idea of miming. “I said I could play live and one of the organisers said, It’s a big gig and I was like, Really? I do this for a living,” explained Noel. Instead Beady Eye – who Noel dubbed “Stratford’s finiest Oasis tribute band” after the ceremony – covered the song, though the senior Gallagher did not give his permission until the Friday beforehand.
