In the golden age of American cartoons, voice actor greats like Mel Blanc and June Foray displayed astounding vocal fortitude, sometimes providing several voices for a single episode. There’s no doubting that times have changed, but Billy West is creating a revival of sorts. Beginning his career with The Howard Stern Show, West pulled double duty on the Nickelodeon series’ Doug and The Ren & Stimpy Show and currently works with Matt Groening and David Cohen on fan-favorite Futurama.
We spoke with West about five of his most iconic characters and how their voices came to be.
