September 17, 1967, The Who’s appearance on The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour was a little more explosive than expected. The band had rigged gunpowder to go off under Keith Moon’s drums at the end of My Generation but the blast was bigger than planned. Moon was cut by metal bits from his cymbal and Pete Townshend’s hair was burned and his hearing damaged.
