It has been a relentless five years for Florence Welch since she burst onto the music scene and went on to score two number one albums and win a Brit Award.
Now the singer, 26, has revealed she plans to take a year off after her band’s tour ends next month — and use it to write a musical.
Florence + The Machine have hardly had time to breathe since they began in 2007, and their European tour arrives at The O2 on December 5.
“I’ve been on tour since I was 21. I need a break and to have the chance to do normal things, like go to the supermarket and hang out with my friends,” said Welch.
“I’ve only just moved out of my mum’s house, so I’d like to settle into my new place and start getting inspired again. If I started writing songs now, all they’d be about is tour buses and hotel rooms.”
Welch was a guest at the launch of Kate: The Kate Moss Book, at 50 St James, where she was joined by old schoolfriend Sophie Hart-Walsh, with whom she plans to write the musical. She added: “It would be amazing to get it into the West End. That’s obviously the dream goal.”
