Adele’s record-breaking album 21 is just days away from over-taking lifetime UK sales of Oasis’ (What’s The Story) Morning Glory?, according to Music Week’s latest Official Charts Analysis.
Adele’s 21, which has topped 25m sales across the world, has sold 777,340 in the UK in this calendar year, making it the 2nd biggest seller of 2012 behind Emeli Sande’s Our Version Of Events.
21 – released in January 2011 – has now accrued a whopping 4,549,686 sales in 100 weeks on the Official UK Album Chart. It sold 15,225 copies in the past week.
Morning Glory has sold 4,554,581 copies to date but only 790 of them came last week.
When 21 surpasses Morning Glory, it will make it the UK’s fourth biggest-selling album of all time.
The top three best-selling albums in UK history are (1) Queen’s Greatest Hits, (2) The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and (3) Abba’s Gold: Greatest Hits.
