Set in the tiny town of Lake Belle Reve, Mississippi, the Ghost Brothers’ story centers on two sets of brothers: the ghosts of Jack and Andy, dead in an apparent murder/suicide, and their nephews, the living Frank and Drake, who seem to be headed toward the same downward spiral as their uncles. Joe, younger brother of Jack and Andy, father of Frank and Drake, has decided it’s time to reveal his own terrible secret at the site of the tragedy, before it’s too late.
13 years in the making: Ghost Brothers of Darkland County is a very special, personal project for Stephen King and John Mellencamp. The gothic tale of fraternal love, lust, jealousy and revenge premiered at Atlanta’s Alliance Theater in the Spring of 2012 to sold-out crowds and now plans for additional productions of the musical in 2013 are underway.
Ghost Brothers is unusual in both size and content. The package includes an 11×11 110 page book with leather-tine type flexible cover, with a hard cover slipcase, plus two CDs and one DVD set. The libretto includes the full script of the play plus handwritten lyrics and other notes from the production. CDs will include music and dialog excerpts. The DVD will feature interview footage with Stephen, John and T Bone plus footage of John recording the show-closing song “Truth.” The liner notes by Allen Light, a distinguished music writer and critic.
The all-star cast for the CDs includes Elvis Costello, Rosanne Cash, Sheryl Crow, Neko Case, Ryan Bingham and Kris Kristofferson, along with actors Matthew McConaughey, Samantha Mathis and Meg Ryan.
Ghost Brothers of Darkland County will go on sale on 03/19/13 for $49.95 with a first printing of 35,000 copies.
