Paul Anka is at a point in his career where he feels comfortable enough to speak his mind about the music industry today, his contact with the mafia — all documented in his upcoming book — and even the Grammy Awards.
Anka is finishing a duets album with artists such as Gloria Estefan, Dolly Parton, Michael Jackson and Michael Buble. He said he did not pick his partners based on “who’s hot in the industry today.”
The duets formula isn’t new. Tony Bennett, who comes to the Sunrise next month, peaked on Billboard charts with albums featuring Lady Gaga and Amy Winehouse.
“Tony Bennett grabbed a bunch of people and is having them swing and all,” Anka said. “I don’t think that’s a lot of integrity — force-feeding people in these situations they don’t belong in.”
