If you’re a nervous flyer, chances are, nothing can put you truly at ease as you hurtle through the air at 800kmh.

But new research has discovered certain songs can have a soothing effect for those anxious in their seats.

British anxiety psychologist Becky Spelman found that breathing in time to music that had a low amount of beats per minute could lower the heart and reduce anxiety.

“Travel anxiety is caused by irrational thoughts where the threat is exaggerated and inappropriate,” she said.

Sponsored by music-sharing app Spotify, the research found the best song to listen to to calm the nerves is Someone Like You, by Adele.

The playlist of top 15 flying songs however, isn’t all sentimental mush (although some of it is).
