A humorous spoof of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream as performed by The Beatles

The sketch was recorded in London on April 28, 1964, just after The Beatles had made their American debut on the Ed Sullivan Show. On Ed’s show, a record setting 73 million people tuned in that evening making it one of the seminal moments in television history. Nearly 50 years later, people still remember exactly where they were the night The Beatles stepped onto that stage.

But not many people have seen The Beatles ‘do’ Shakespeare. The spoof was part of a one-hour British TV special called “Around the Beatles.”
