Nickelback headlining Alberta flood fundraising concert

From Sun News:

Nickelback is giving back to Alberta flood relief.

The Alberta-born rockers were revealed via Twitter and Facebook on Friday as the headliners for the Alberta Flood Aid Concert Aug. 15 at McMahon Stadium, joining other Canadian artists like Jann Arden, Tom Cochrane, Matthew Good and The Sheepdogs, to raise funds for victim’s of last month’s devastating flood.

Chairman Peter Jurisic of Alberta Flood Aid, organizing the concert, said the band is a fitting addition to the lineup.

“They are probably the largest selling band ever to come out of Alberta and I believe out of Canada,” he said.

While some may not be a fan of the band’s music, Jurisic said it’s about those affected by the flood and the band wanting to give back to their home province.

“This is about every single person who doesn’t have a home to go to right now,” he said.

“Imagine being locked (out of your home) for months, or never being able to back and having to start all over again, that’s what this is about.”

Tickets went on sale Friday through Ticketmaster and start at $30, with proceeds benefitting The Calgary Foundation’s Flood Rebuilding Fund.

He said 15,000 tickets were sold in one hour.
