Digital music service Rdio continues its global expansion with a newly announced strategic partnership with media company Shaw Communications, the companies announced on Thursday.
The marketing, content and promotion pact that will aim to grow Rdio’s presence in the Canadian market. As part of the deal, Shaw Ventures has made a financial investment in Rdio’s holding company, Pulser Media. Shaw Media operates Canadian TV network Global Television and 19 specialty networks, including HGTV Canada and Food Network Canada.
“Canada is Rdio’s second largest market and is a huge priority for us. As one of the most diverse countries in the world, Canada has a rich and varied musical landscape of musicians and music-lovers, so we’re very excited to align with Shaw to become the top music service in Canada,” Rdio CEO Anthony Bay said in a statement.
