Jack White’s Lazaretto sold 40K vinyl copies this week. It’s the largest one-week sales tally for a vinyl album since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking music sales in 1991. The old record was set in 1994, when Pearl Jam’s Vitalogy sold 34K vinyl copies.
The Lion King soundtrack has sold 1,043,000 vinyl copies, more than any other album on Nielsen SoundScan’s running list of the best-selling overall albums in its history. It is followed by the Beatles’s Abbey Road (212K vinyl copies in the Nielsen SoundScan era), Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side Of The Moon (105K), Pearl Jam’s Vitalogy (93K), U2’s Achtung Baby (76K) and Michael Jackson’s Thriller (73K).
