Stevie Wonder on Soul! TV show, 1972

Soul! was a TV show I never had a chance to watch in the original run, as it aired from 1968 to 1973 and featured a wide array of incredible black performers and personalities, including Al Green, Kool and the Gang, the Staple Singers, Richie Havens, Earth, Wind, and Fire, Herbie Hancock, and Gladys Knight and the Pips. A slew of shows have been posted on YouTube, and this one with Stevie Wonder is the best of the bunch.

Stevie covers Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On,” Bob Dylan’s “Blowin’ in the Wind,” and the Temptations’ “Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone” among his originals.

Simply astounding.
