AMP FM Quits Controversial QuickHitz Format

From FYI Music:

Calgary’s ‘mostly hit radio’ 90.3 AMP FM quietly went back to playing unedited songs Tuesday after rocking the boat almost 3 weeks ago with the controversial QuickHitz format.

Steve Jones, VP, Programming for station owner NewCap Radio, told the Canadian Press that threats of legal action over unsanctioned song edits forced the station’s hand to abandon the format.

“It was greeted with a lot of curiosity and it was also greeted with numerous legal threats from a variety of different directions,” Jones said from Halifax.

“As we evaluated it, we made the decision that this week we would just go back to the old strategy because to do this successfully would involve far too many lawyers getting far too rich.”
