JAZZ.FM91 Announces the 2014 Sound of Jazz Concert Series

JAZZ.FM91 announced the line-up for the 39th Annual JAZZ.FM91 Sound of Jazz Concert Series.  Featuring 5 concerts from September through December, international and local artists will take the stage at the Old Mill Toronto showcasing the very best in jazz.  The Sound of Jazz is the first of many concert series to be announced with JAZZ.FM91’s On Stage Season.

The 2014 Sound of Jazz Concert Series will feature the following line-up:

Kicking off JAZZ.FM91’s 2014 season of The Sound of Jazz, is Juno Award-winning Ranee Lee, featuring her new album ‘What’s Going On?’, re-imagining jazz and soul classics.  On September 22nd, audience members will discover one of Canada’s treasured jazz vocalists, who is a member of the Order of Canada.

Often called ‘one of the greatest guitarists on the planet’, Larry Coryell presents an evening of storytelling and outstanding music on October 20th, joined by local artists George Koller and Mark Kelso.

Gap Mangione performed with his brother, Grammy-winning Chuck Mangione, in 1958 as the Jazz Brothers.  This jazz pianist and composer will lead the Gap Mangione Quintet in Tribute to the Mangione Brothers, giving the audience on November 3rd an opportunity to experience the ‘Mangione Music’ spanning from the different eras.

On November 24th, Juno Award-winning jazz saxophonist, P.J. Perry will share the stage with some of the most talented up and coming musicians today, the JAZZ.FM91 Youth Big Band!

JAZZ.FM91 will wrap up the Sound of Jazz Concert Series celebrating the holidays with the festive performance, Christmas, All Jazzed Up.  On December 8th, the Old Mill Toronto will feature drummer extraordinaire Ernesto Cervini and Juno-nominated Chris Donnelly, with a full jazz band presenting everyone’s favourite holiday melodies.

All concerts will be recorded live for broadcast throughout the year on Sunday mornings at 11AM on JAZZ.FM91.
