2014 Music Nova Scotia Awards Nominees Announced: Kim Harris and Adam Baldwin Both Receive Six Nominations

Symphonic songstress Kim Harris and roots-rocker Adam Baldwin lead the pack at this year’s Music Nova Scotia Awards with six nominations each, followed by Carleton Stone and The Town Heroes who have five nods each. The awards will be handed out during the 2014 Molson Canadian Nova Scotia Music Week (NSMW), held in Truro Colchester from November 6-9.

Other artists receiving multiple nominations include Don Brownrigg, Jimmy Rankin and Kuato, who each have four.

Voting for the awards is open to members of Music Nova Scotia. Voting is now open and will close on Tuesday, September 23 at 5:00 PM. The general public will have a chance to vote for the Music Nova Scotia Entertainer of the Year award. Online voting for this award will open in October. The Music Nova Scotia Awards will be handed out Sunday, November 9th at the Music and Industry Awards Brunch to be held at the Holiday Inn Truro.

This year marks a shift in programming at NSMW, as there will be no awards gala. In its place will be an arena show headlined by Canadian country-rock legends Blue Rodeo, with support from Adam Baldwin and Carleton Stone. The show will be held on Sunday, November 9 in Truro’s Rath Eastlink Community Centre.

Music Nova Scotia Executive Director Scott Long believes this change will be a significant improvement from past festivals.   “We’ve decided to move away from an awards gala this year in favour of a ‘Super Show’ with an internationally recognized act such as Blue Rodeo,” says Long. “We want to make this a more performance-centred event to create a wider appeal for festival goers. Blue Rodeo is a perfect fit for NSMW as our mandate is to showcase and celebrate the music and musicians of Nova Scotia. Band member Greg Keelor is a native Cape Bretoner who has achieved great success in the music industry. The show will be a great celebration to cap off what’s sure to be an amazing NSMW.”

The festival will feature 100 showcasing artists from throughout the province, playing in eight venues in Truro Colchester. Coinciding with the showcases will be the NSMW industry conference, which brings in music professionals from around the world to participate in panels, presentations and workshops that deal with a wide range of topics surrounding the current and future state of the industry.
