Pandora and Spotify were among the Top 5 earners of in-app revenue last month. According to US-based app tracking firm App Annie, Pandora was the No.2 revenue-earner on both iOS and Google Play for the month, although the chart does not include video game apps.
The internet radio service’s Google Play position represents a lift from No.5 in July. Spotify’s August in-app purchases saw it move from No.14 in July to No.7 in August, with the streaming service having activated in-app subscriptions at the end of June. Apple’s own Beats Music streaming app placed at No.9 in the iOS rankings of in-app purchases, according to App Annie.
Billboard reports that it’s the first time the music companies have featured among the leading in-app revenue earners.
