Along with the announcement of submission dates and deadlines, CARAS has also introduced the following changes this year:
Fully Digital Submission Process
For the sixth consecutive year, the JUNO Awards will use YANGAROO to streamline the submissions process, however, 2015 marks the first year of a fully digital submission process. This means that submitters will now upload MP3 versions of their music to the submission site instead of mailing physical copies to the CARAS office. YANGAROO’s patented Digital Media Distribution System (DMDS) enables judges to listen to submissions online and allows candidates to add high-resolution photographs, digital booklets and more artist information for judges to preview in the artist’s biography page.
Artist/Group/Breakthrough Artist/Breakthrough Group of the Year
The nominees for Artist, Group, Breakthrough Artist, and Breakthrough Group of the Year will now be determined by an equal weight of sales, CARAS Member vote and Next Big Sound data. Next Big Sound measures the growth and popularity of artists/bands across social networks, and streaming services. Previously, these categories were determined only by sales and CARAS Member vote.
The Contemporary Jazz Album of the Year and Traditional Jazz Album of the Year categories will now be Jazz Album of the Year: Solo and Jazz Album of the Year: Group. The Solo category will include all artists who have a solo project but play with a group of hired musicians. The Group category will include all duos, trios, quartets, ensembles, orchestras etc. Please note that the Vocal Jazz Album of the Year category will remain the same.
PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP is the Official Ballot Accountants for the 2015 JUNO Awards.
Sponsors of the 2015 JUNO Awards include FACTOR, Canada’s Private Radio Broadcasters and The Government of Canada through the Department of Canadian Heritage’s “Canada Music Fund,” Radio Starmaker Fund, Province of Ontario, Ontario Media Development Corporation, the City of Hamilton, and TD Bank Group.
