Ed Sheeran On Being “An Overnight Success”

“Listen, I’ve had a hell of a lot of criticism, mostly from muso snob journalists who feel like I just came out of nowhere. They were there right from day one. I wasn’t tipped by anyone, or built up through the industry hierarchy; no one championed me other than the people I have around me now. I couldn’t get signed for years and years. Everyone turned me down. I’ve had it right from the start. [When someone seems to come out of nowhere] those seemingly in charge will always try to tear you down. It’s at those moments when you learn a lot about yourself, and a lot about how much you want this thing.”
