Back in December 1967, Pink Floyd added guitarist David Gilmour as the fifth member of Pink Floyd to eventually replace Syd Barrett. That must have been uncomfortable for a moment, as they both studied together at Cambridge Tech in the early 1960s. Group manager Peter Jenner said at the time “The idea was that Dave would … cover for [Barrett’s] eccentricities and when that got to be not workable, Syd was just going to write. Just to try to keep him involved”.
Here’s Pink Floyd performing with Gilmour for the first time on the French TV show “Live at Bouton Rouge”: Astronomy Domine, Flaming, Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun and Let There Be More Light.
