Recent years have seen a rise in using CBD and marijuana to treat various conditions. People are turning to CBD or cannabidiol for the potential health benefits to help them sleep.
It’s a compound derived from hemp and marijuana that doesn’t get you high. It has recently risen to popularity because of the potential benefits people can derive from them, including pain and anxiety.
It’s understandable why you might turn to buy CBD pills online. According to a recent survey of 1,267 US adults conducted by the nationally representative CR, almost 80% of Americans said they had trouble sleeping at least once a week.
They mostly turn to over-the-counter drugs that prove to be ineffective and risky most times. A small but rising number of scientific research data proves CBD can act as a sleep aid.
For example, this study shows that CBD can help people with having short-term sleep problems. But how do CBD capsules help treat insomnia?
How CBD capsules can treat insomnia
By easing anxiety, CBD may aid with sleep. Colorado researchers examined the health records of 72 CBD-treated patients because of either nervousness or poor sleep, according to a study published in The Permanente Journal, published by Kaiser-Permanente Health Insurance Company.
The study found that anxiety levels dropped significantly over three months, even in people with poor sleep as their primary complaint. People with sleep problems reported some improvement in the first month, but the results weren’t clear-cut.
It might be possible to explain how CBD affects both sleep and anxiety biologically. Several studies have shown that cannabis-derived compounds affect the endocannabinoid system, which you can find throughout the body, including the brain.
According to some researchers, at least one of those receptors affects sleep/wake cycles in the body, explaining how CBD might directly affect sleep.
Researchers have also found that CBD interacts with another receptor in the brain that is associated with anxiety.
Should you try CBD capsules to treat insomnia?
Before trying CBD capsules to treat insomnia, it would be best to use more proven therapies. For example, you could try the cognitive-behavioral treatments for insomnia (CBT-I) that mainly focus on sleep-disrupting habits.
Research suggests that it’s safer and more effective than over-the-counter or prescription drugs that can lead to dependence and pose death and overdose risks.
Research has shown that CBD capsules can treat insomnia. However, because of the adverse effects it might have on your body, experts suggest trying other options to improve your sleep before trying out CBD capsules.
