This year’s Billboard Music Awards were full of strong contenders that betting agents for the most iconic musician of the year were in full force. Unfortunately, there can be only one winner in the categories for both the top male and female artists of the year.
Artists such as The Weeknd and Lil Nas X produced albums that were met with extremely positive reactions from fans, whereas Justin Bieber and Drake again proved that they haven’t forgotten how to produce hits that remain at the top of the charts for months at a time. In the female category, Adele released her first album in 6 years which saw tremendous success, Doja Cat and Dua Lipa showed why they are at the top of the pop game whilst Olivia Rodrigo exploded onto the scene with an album that took the internet by storm.

Best Male Singers
Drake
Drake needs no introduction as an established music artist. The Canadian rapper has been in the music industry for a long time and has broken the most amount of chart records in the history of charting music. He has been a finalist for the Best Male artist 11 times alone, as well as a number of nominations including top artist overall, top Hot 100 artist, and the Billboard 200 album of the year. It is no surprise that Drake won the Best Male Artist award at the Billboard Music Awards.

Ed Sheeran is another household name that has only seen growth and success as his music career progressed. With every new album, Ed Sheeran released, a number of his songs have reached high places on the charts. Ed’s “=” album released in 2021 is no different with the song “Bad Habits” reaching over 1 billion streams on Spotify alone.
Justin Bieber
Justin Bieber is an artist that was mostly enjoyed by teenage girls back when Bieber was a teen himself. As he has grown up, his music production and style have matured and fans are all for it. Lil Nas X was initially known as a one-hit-wonder artist with the song “Old Town Road” which broke the record for consecutively staying at the number 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The Weeknd has gone from being considered a unique R&B artist to a global pop star in a relatively short period of time. With the release of the Canadian’s latest album “Dawn FM”, Abel Tesfaye has continued his spree of extremely impressive and catchy pop music that is mixed with several other genres.

Adele
Adele hasn’t released an album in 6 years and many people wondered if she still had the same power and ability that everyone knew her to have. “30”, released in 2021, showed us that the Adele that we all knew and loved hasn’t gone anywhere and again blew us all away. Her voice has matured and somehow improved which is why she is comfortably made this list.
Doja Cat
Doja Cat started off as an artist that people considered to be someone that made fun of TikTok songs but it wasn’t long before people realized that she had real talent and a unique sound. “Planet Her” is Doja Cat’s latest album which boasts her versatility as an artist and shows real potential for a future pop star if she isn’t already there.
Dua Lipa
Dua Lipa is another performer that is considered at the top of the game when it comes to making catchy pop music. Dua Lipa doesn’t seem to be capable of missing whilst producing music that has people hitting that replay button.

A year or two ago no one expected a teen to be making headlines like Olivia Rodrigo. At just 19 years old, she has seen more success than some popular artists see in their entire careers. With relatable and heartfelt songwriting it is quite obvious that she has gained so many fans this quickly.
