Here’s All of the Different Ways to Get Nicotine Without Smoking

By Mitch Rice

If you’re still smoking in 2022, there’s only one possible explanation: you must be unaware of the enormous variety of alternative nicotine products on the market today. Vaping was the first alternative form of nicotine consumption to find mainstream success among smokers, and it’s still the most popular smoking alternative. The popularity of vaping opened the floodgates, though, giving rise to the enormous variety of nicotine products on the market today.

There are so many different ways to get nicotine without smoking that the idea of anyone setting tobacco on fire and inhaling the smoke seems downright laughable. Even if you’ve tried quitting before and weren’t successful, it’s likely that there weren’t nearly as many smoking alternatives on the market then as there are today.

In this article, you’re going to learn about some of the most exciting alternative nicotine products on the market. Here are all of the different ways to get nicotine without smoking.

Vaping

There’s probably barely a smoker in the world today who isn’t aware of vaping. E-cigarettes have been around for so long, in fact, that you may have actually tried one of the early devices and found that it didn’t help you in your quest to stop smoking. If that’s the case, you should give vaping a second chance and try a newer device. Modern devices like Fume disposable vapes are markedly more satisfying than the e-cigarettes of the past. They’re available in a huge variety of different flavors, so they’re significantly more enjoyable to use. More importantly, though, modern vapes deliver much more nicotine per puff than the first-generation vaping devices. You won’t find another smoking alternative that delivers nicotine as efficiently as a modern vape, and that’s why millions of people around the world have switched successfully from smoking to vaping.

Nicotine Pouches

The nicotine pouch is a relatively new invention in the world of alternative nicotine products. You use it by placing the pouch under your lip and holding it there as the nicotine absorbs over the course of about 30 minutes. A nicotine pouch is a bit like snus, but the difference is that snus is made from powdered tobacco. Nicotine pouches, on the other hand, are tobacco free and consist of powdered nicotine and flavors. Some common flavors of nicotine pouches include mint, citrus and various fruit flavors. The fact that they’re available in many flavors makes nicotine pouches much more enjoyable to use than traditional nicotine replacement products. Also, the fact that they’re made with synthetic salt-based nicotine means that people don’t typically experience hiccups when using nicotine pouches as they do with other oral nicotine replacement products.

Nicotine Gum

Nicotine gum has been one of the most common nicotine replacement products for many years. Typically enrobed in a sweet-tasting shell, you release the nicotine by chewing the gum until the shell breaks. Then, you park the gum in your cheek and hold it there until the tingle fades. You can continue chewing the gum as needed to release more nicotine until the peppery flavor is completely gone. Traditional nicotine gums – the ones that you can find over the counter in any pharmacy – aren’t particularly tasty. More recently, though, companies have begun making nicotine gums with synthetic nicotine. They’re available in a wider variety of flavors, but you can typically only find them online.

Nicotine Lozenges

The nicotine lozenge is another traditional nicotine replacement product that’s changed quite a bit since synthetic nicotine has become available. Traditional over-the-counter nicotine lozenges are only available in simple flavors like mint and cherry. You can find synthetic nicotine lozenges, on the other hand, in a much wider variety of flavors. Once again, though, you’ll typically only find them online. Using a nicotine lozenge is simple; all that you need to do is place it in your mouth and allow it to dissolve slowly. If you experience hiccups, use a lower nicotine strength – or try the newer synthetic nicotine lozenges.

Nicotine Patches

Nicotine patches aren’t as popular as they used to be thanks to the development of vaping and the synthetic nicotine replacement products mentioned above. Some people find patches useful for smoking cessation, though, because you can simply put one on and forget about it. With other nicotine replacement products, you need to use the product when you experience cravings. With a nicotine patch, on the other hand, the nicotine absorbs through your skin slowly and helps to prevent cravings before they occur.

Nicotine Toothpicks

Nicotine toothpicks are great for those who want to replace the nicotine from smoking but need something that also replaces the ritual bringing a cigarette to the mouth. Some people actually quit smoking by chewing on toothpicks – and if you’re the type of person who enjoys the repetitive hand-to-mouth motions of smoking, nicotine toothpicks might give you an even better chance to quit successfully. A nicotine toothpick gives you something to chew on, and the nicotine absorbs through your mouth as you chew it.

Heated Tobacco Systems

Heated tobacco systems aren’t easy to find in the United States. If you happen to live elsewhere, though, it’s worth considering if you’re looking for an alternative nicotine product that’s inhalable and has an authentic tobacco flavor. A heated tobacco system heats a plug of tobacco at a high enough temperature to vaporize the nicotine without causing combustion. When you inhale the vapor, you absorb the nicotine through your lungs. Using a heated tobacco system is somewhat similar to using an e-liquid vaping device. If you don’t like the sweet flavors used for most e-liquids and would rather use an alternative nicotine product that gives you the flavor of real of tobacco, though, you might enjoy using a heated tobacco system. Although the safety profile of heated tobacco systems is unknown, they’re greatly reduced in tar output compared to smoked tobacco.

Eggplant

If you’re looking for a way to get a little extra nicotine in your life and possibly make your cravings a bit easier to bear, you might consider adding some eggplant to your diet. Containing about 200 nanograms of nicotine per gram, eggplant is one of nature’s more plentiful sources of nicotine after tobacco. Of course, that’s considerably less nicotine than what’s in tobacco – but for some people, every little bit helps. Other foods with nicotine include tomatoes, sweet peppers and tomatoes.
