There are times when your washing machine has just finished its last cycle, the door is unlocked, and you’re getting ready to either hang up your laundry or move it to the dryer. As you take the items out of the machine, you make a horrible discovery. Your clothes have holes in them or may be covered in pet hair! The clothes may be covered in sand or even soap stains.
There are two elements of washing machine failure. A mechanical element and a human element. When clothes are damaged by a washing cycle, it takes some detective work to determine the cause. Different problems cause different symptoms, so diagnosing the source of the problem will require an evaluation of the symptoms. However, it goes without saying that if the problem is serious, it is not advisable to wash more laundry in the machine until the problem has been properly identified.

Clothes Do Not Wash Properly Because of Detergent Residue
Detergent is an important factor in washing clothes. It is excellent for removing dirt and thoroughly cleaning clothes. Thus, the detergent repels dirt. However, detergent can also attract dirt to clothes. In an environment where the washing machine is overloaded, the detergent may not distribute properly during the wash and rinse cycle. We recommend reducing the load size and the amount of detergent. When washing items that are stained with wool or sand from pets, try adding an extra rinse cycle to the normal wash cycle. Sometimes the machine also gets clogged with dirt, in which case running an empty wash cycle with vinegar or descaler can help.
Clothes Get Tangled
This becomes a real problem when the machine is loaded incorrectly. Make sure that the load is balanced and that the clothes can move freely after loading. An overloaded machine exacerbates this problem. It may also be a good idea to change the wash and spin program to a gentler one.
There Are Gaps or Holes in The Clothes
You may find that there are small holes in your clothes after you take them out of the machine. This may be a reflex reaction to the assumption that the machine is faulty. First, look to see if there are any items that may be causing the damage. Items of clothing with exposed metal zippers, buckles, button closures and metal overlays can get caught both during washing and during spinning, which can cause damage incomparable to their size. If you find an item that causes such problems, you may hand wash this garment separately in the future. There are other preventive measures as well. Close zippers, bra hooks and large buttons. Check pockets for sharp objects that can damage things if they fall out. Pocket knives, nail clippers, and other items can do a lot of damage to a single batch of clothing.
