Celebrities Help Normalize Cannabis Consumption

By Mitch Rice

For years, celebrities have been consuming cannabis in various forms, but many have kept it private until recently. Today, many celebrities are not only open about consuming cannabis, but some have even started their own businesses selling lines of cannabis and CBD products.

There are plenty of premium cannabis brands on the market selling delicious, high-quality edibles. For example, cannabis edibles by Verano are popular because the company goes to great lengths to ensure quality and purity. However, Verano has also partnered with celebrity Mike Tyson to create a new line of cannabis products named after a WWE Hall of Fame wrestler.

Nothing helps to normalize a trend in society like celebrity endorsement, but in this case, most aren’t being paid to promote cannabis – they’re expressing their genuine support for this wonderful plant. This, in turn, helps to normalize cannabis consumption.

Celebrities are creating their own cannabis lines

When Mike Tyson launched his namesake brand Tyson 2.0 and the Ric Flair Drip cannabis product line, he did so because he wanted to share the benefits of cannabis with as many people as possible. Like many people, Tyson didn’t discover the benefits of cannabis until later in life and once he experienced the benefits, he decided to create his own products.

Mike Tyson isn’t the only celebrity to create his own line of cannabis products. Several musicians have started their own product lines as well:

  • Bob Marley. Marley Natural was established in honor of Bob Marley two years after the first U.S. states legalized cannabis.
  • Carlos Santana. Santana’s line of products is called Mirayo and is grown in the sun to “honor the spiritual and ancient Latin heritage of the plant.”
  • Mickey Hart. When the drummer for the Grateful Dead launched his “Mind Your Head” brand, fans were thrilled. Jerry Garcia’s daughter, Trixie, also contributed to the brand by creating a handpicked line of products.
  • Shavo Odadjian. Odadjian turned his 22Red fashion label into a cannabis brand in California.
  • Willie Nelson. A long-time cannabis activist, Willie Nelson started his line called “Willie’s Reserve” soon after the U.S. began legalizing cannabis.

This is just a small list of celebrities with cannabis product lines. There are many more, and not all happen to be musicians. Many actors and TV show celebrities either have product lines or have contributed to creating a product line.

Celebrities are being open about their cannabis enthusiasm

Something else that helps normalize cannabis consumption is seeing celebrities openly discuss their support and consumption. More celebrities are open about it today than ever before. For instance, here’s a list of some who have been very open about being cannabis connoisseurs:

  • Seth Rogen
  • Bob Marley
  • Miley Cyrus
  • Snoop Dogg
  • Jerry Garcia
  • Woody Harrelson
  • Brad Pitt
  • Whoopi Goldberg
  • Cheech & Chong
  • Matthew McConaughey
  • Steve Jobs
  • Rihanna
  • Jay-Z
  • Jimi Hendrix

When people see their favorite celebrities talking about cannabis, it makes it a more comfortable topic to discuss. And, for those fans who haven’t yet discovered the benefits of cannabis, seeing their favorite celebrities support it also helps them make the decision to try it out. If someone has been curious about cannabis for a while, but they haven’t tried it yet, celebrity endorsement can be pretty influential.

Celebrities are bringing awareness to the health benefits

Of course, consuming cannabis has some good-feeling effects. However, it’s not just something that makes people feel good – it’s quite therapeutic. Some people only become aware of the therapeutic benefits when they notice their favorite celebrities discussing it. For example, Lady Gaga is very open about her cannabis consumption and says she uses it to cope with stress.

Bringing awareness to the therapeutic benefits is the best way celebrities are contributing to the normalization of cannabis consumption. Some people are understandably hesitant to try cannabis until they learn that it can help alleviate feelings of anxiety, stress, and insomnia, just as a few examples. Once they discover the therapeutic benefits, it becomes an option.

There’s a long way to go, but celebrities are helping

As far as completely normalizing cannabis consumption, there’s still quite a bit of work to be done. It hasn’t been legalized in every state yet, but that’s sure to change with the support of celebrities being open and helping to normalize cannabis consumption.
