Shoegaze Visionary Wisp Releases Debut Album ‘If Not Winter’ With New “Black Swan” Video

Shoegaze rising star Wisp releases her debut album ‘If Not Winter’ out now, a sweeping and heartfelt project shaped by fantasy, diary level honesty and a love for the genre that inspired her. Alongside the album comes the official video for “Black Swan”, a piece that plays with light, shadow and the feeling of stepping into the unknown. The record arrives as Wisp reaches new heights, performing on the same stages as Slowdive and Deftones, two artists who shaped her musical imagination. Across the album she crafts a questlike world, gathering sonic talismans that reflect the places and communities she now calls home.

Across its songs, ‘If Not Winter’ blends medieval fantasy touches with whispered vocals, heavier armorlike tones and soft lace delicacy. Wisp has already shared the album tracks “Breathe Onto Me”, “Save me now”, “Sword” and “Get back to me”, each showing a different side of her evolving voice. She brings together pop melody, folk storytelling and the collaborative ideals of hardcore into a singular aesthetic. Wisp says, “If Not Winter is a look into my diary entries and all of my childhood dreams. Evoking feelings of limerence, nostalgia, infatuation to the highest levels it is a vulnerable reflection of my most inner thoughts and memories I wanted to eternize, to look back on, and for everyone else to relate and find meaning in.” In “Black Swan”, she also reflects on the challenge of being perceived by the world, finding her way toward a self that remains grounded even as the light grows brighter.
