Serious Child Unveils ‘Veneer’: A Lush Floydian Journey Through Social Camouflage and Self Discovery

Serious Child, the project of West Sussex based Alan Young, releases “Veneer,” the third single from his fourth album ‘What Lies Beneath.’ Co-written with Neil Connor, the lush almost Floydian piece features David Grubb’s sliding violin and My Girl The River’s backing vocals that create layers of comforting and sumptuous introspection. The track tells the story of social camouflage and celebrates finding your own individuality, exploring who we are beneath the surface with a poet’s ear for emotion and a comedian’s eye for everyday detail. Young draws inspiration from Tony Harrison’s sonnet Book Ends, Rob McFarlane’s Underland and Georgian traditional lullaby Iavnana for this ambitious record following his 2021 Fatea Album of the Year shortlisted ‘Talk About The Weather.’
