Philadelphia music artist SubSpaceHiWay just dropped their new EP ‘Fiendomme’, a 2-track double side release that explores a mix of shoegaze and indie pop with descriptive storytelling lyrics. The songs are about love, heartbreak and the journey of finding yourself, told from their perspective as a nonbinary artist.
The songs each carry their own weight on the EP. “Cabernet” features upbeat, stabbing piano chords beneath a horn and string section that give it a uniquely lively and full musical feel. Layered vocal work ties it all together. Another new offering on the EP is “A Nonbinary Ballad”, which takes things into a more shoegaze direction. The song starts with jangly electric guitar and mellow, spacey vocals that almost make you drift away, while the layered harmonies give it a dreamy feel unique to SubSpaceHiWay.
SubSpaceHiWay has been making music since they were 10, learning guitar, singing and later teaching themselves how to record and produce. They pull inspiration from a host of different backgrounds to create a sound that’s completely their own. With ‘Fiendomme’, SubSpaceHiWay showcases a mix of fun, heartfelt and creative music that make a strong first impression.
