Editors front person Tom Smith has officially announced details for his debut solo album, ‘There Is Nothing In The Dark Which Isn’t There In The Light’, which is set for release on December 5th via Play It Again Sam. After two successful decades fronting Editors and releasing two albums with Smith & Burrows, Smith is finally stepping into solo territory, motivated by a desire to reconnect with the raw, acoustic beginnings of his songwriting. The album will feature the latest track, “Life Is For Living,” which is already available, along with the previously released single “Lights Of New York City.”
Smith enlisted producer Iain Archer to help craft the record, which is built around emotional honesty, acoustic textures, and themes of connection, memory, and resilience. Smith spoke about the single, saying, “‘Life is for living, anyway you want, life is for living, live it ‘till it’s gone…’ Iain and I stumbled across this line together, it felt like an empowering thing to say, and it spoke to the dreamlike hopeful nature of the song.” The ten track record balances stripped back arrangements with cinematic flourishes, creating a dynamic range that showcases Smith’s evolution as a songwriter and his yearning to create music that reflects his essence.
