British blues rocker Joanne Shaw Taylor sets the tone for the holidays with her new single “Irish Christmas In New York,” a warm and witty reflection on an unplanned but unforgettable Christmas. The song is out now via Journeyman Records and brings the listener into a cozy scene filled with laughter, music, and a little whiskey in an old Irish pub far from home.
Joanne explains, “My travel plans home to London for Christmas one year got canceled so I ended up going to New York City to spend the holidays with my best friend who was also unable to travel home to MI. We went to an old Irish pub on Christmas Eve in the village and what was meant to be a quick drink ended up with us spending two days there. We have always called it our Irish Christmas in New York and I thought writing a Christmas song would be a nice tribute to a lovely memory and the kind people that were willing to make us feel at home when we couldn’t be.”
The release adds a festive twist to what’s already been a landmark year for Joanne, fresh off the acclaim of her album ‘Black & Gold’ and one of the busiest tour runs of her career. Her lyrics in “Irish Christmas In New York” capture the scene vividly, from “There’s whiskey and laughter and hope and good cheer” to the pub-ready chorus noting “There’s Guinness and wine and maybe a fight.” She’s already gearing up for a packed 2026, with a UK and European tour launching January 25 and a full spring U.S. headline tour to follow, bringing her sharp vocals and fierce guitar playing to audiences across two continents.
