DELLA MAE Announce New Album ‘Magic Accident’ with Release of Title Track

GRAMMY-nominated roots and bluegrass quartet Della Mae has officially announced their new album, Magic Accident, and dropped the title track, signaling the start of a fresh chapter for the band. This record, their first for Nashville-based Compass Records, showcases the vocal strength and instrumental skill fans expect, drawing inspiration from everything from Americana to hard-driving bluegrass and dreamy indie-folk. Long-time advocates for women in music, Della Mae collaborated with the brilliant producer and banjoist Alison Brown on the project. Lead vocalist and guitarist Celia Woodsmith penned the title track, “Magic Accident,” which reflects on the passage of time and self-discovery, fueled by Kimber Ludiker’s fiddle, Vickie Vaughn’s bass, and Brown’s catchy banjo groove that carries a cosmic message reminiscent of the early Chicks.

The band says Magic Accident explores the “complexity of being human and the drive to seize joy and possibility amid the sheer improbability of being here at all.” Since forming in Boston in 2010, Della Mae has proven that an all-women band is more than just a novelty, earning a GRAMMY nomination for Best Bluegrass Album and being named Emerging Artist of the Year by the International Bluegrass Music Association in 2013. Known for their high-energy performances that have taken them to over 30 countries representing the U.S. State Department, this new album is their most collaborative effort to date, featuring original songs contributed by each member and co-writes with artists they’ve long admired.
