Gibson recently hosted an exclusive event at the Gibson Garage London to celebrate the “Godfather of Heavy Metal,” Tony Iommi, and announce the return of his legendary Signature Humbucker. The evening featured an intimate interview moderated by the BBC’s Liz Barnes and a first-look trailer for Iommi: The Godfather of Heavy Metal, a new limited docuseries from Gibson Films. Set to stream on Gibson TV, the series provides a career-spanning deep dive into the Black Sabbath architect’s history, featuring interviews with rock luminaries including Brian May, Slash, and Kirk Hammett. As Gibson Media Director Todd Harapiak noted, the project honors the man who gave birth to a sound rooted in darkness that became a foundational way of life for millions.
Accompanying the cinematic celebration is the long-awaited return of the Gibson Tony Iommi Signature Humbucker via the Gibson Pickup Shop. Designed to replicate the thunderous tone and crystal clarity that defined Black Sabbath’s discography, the pickup utilizes a unique configuration of ceramic and Alnico 2 magnets. The hardware is fully wax-potted and epoxied to handle high distortion without feedback, offering four-conductor wiring for versatile series, parallel, and split-coil operation. This reissue honors the Birmingham native’s uncompromising vision and the ground-shaking riffs that continue to inspire generations of musicians across the global heavy metal spectrum.
