Paige Kennedy Shares Campy Breakup Anthem “Oh Honey!” Ahead Of ‘Style Over Substance’ EP Release

Paige Kennedy releases new single “Oh Honey!” as the last preview of their forthcoming EP ‘Style Over Substance’, arriving February 6. The bouncy retro-indebted tune covers one of life’s more relatable, albeit painful, moments with theatrical flair. Paige explains: “I’m a longtime fan of campy breakup anthems from the likes of Janet Jackson, Prince, and Annie Lennox. When I went through my own cataclysmic heartbreak, I seized the opportunity to write one myself. As someone with a penchant for theatrics, I had a lot of fun writing 80s guitar lines, stacked backing vocals and even slipping in a cheeky key change. The lyrics are raw, focusing on loss and confusion, while the instrumental is fabulously silly.” The video takes a typically slanted view of the situation, with Paige dressed as if attending a funeral while in incongruous locations like a 1950s bathroom and tiki bar, perfectly illustrating the desolation in the lyrics juxtaposing with glossy instrumentation. It follows hot on the heels of “Male Friend” and “Medical Emergency,” which set in motion the alchemy between emotional gut-punches and the absurd, cementing Paige’s ability to turn heartbreak into something you can dance to without losing the sting.

With an eye for wry vignettes and a whacky, off-the-wall persona, Paige Kennedy builds an ever-growing audience through social clips that translate into a killer live show getting feet moving on sticky floors and grassy fields alike. The London-based artist and producer from Kent has written, produced, and mixed all their music to date, combining danceable baselines with quirky lyrics and hook-laced songwriting. Paige’s self-released tracks have gained serious traction on BBC Radio, securing accolades including Radio 1 Introducing Track of the Week and 6 Music Recommends Track, with airplay from Greg James, Jack Saunders, Vick and Jordan, Arielle Free, Lauren Laverne, Steve Lamacq, and crucial champion John Kennedy at Radio X. Live gigs include a sold-out recent debut London headline at The George Tavern and full UK support runs for She Drew The Gun and Moonchild Sanelly, alongside previous spots supporting BC Camplight and Billy No Mates. Festival appearances span the DIY Stage at The Great Escape, Trans Musicales, Homobloc, Boia Festival, Liverpool Sound City, Focus Wales, Swn, Left of the Dial Rotterdam, the BBC Introducing Stage at Latitude Festival, Night Currents, Multitude Festival, and Manchester International Festival. The EP will be supported by a headline tour through February.
