Guitar visionary Bill Frisell has announced the February 27, 2026, release of his fifth Blue Note album, ‘In My Dreams’, a landmark project that reunites some of his closest musical confidants into a first-of-its-kind sextet. The ensemble features Jenny Scheinman on violin, Eyvind Kang on viola, Hank Roberts on cello, Thomas Morgan on bass, and Rudy Royston on drums. This unique configuration merges Frisell’s longtime trio with his established string section, creating an “elastic” sonic landscape that spans Jazz, Americana, and original compositions. Today marks the debut of the title track, “In My Dreams,” which serves as the first transmission from a record Frisell describes as approaching a lifelong ideal of musical purity and vibrant clarity.
The album’s production, helmed by Lee Townsend and engineer Adam Muñoz, utilized an ingenious hybrid approach, capturing core performances live during 2025 concerts in Brooklyn, Denver, and New Haven before layering elaborate soundscapes at Opus Studios in Berkeley. This release perfectly aligns with Frisell’s milestone 75th birthday on March 18, 2026, which he will celebrate with a high-profile series of special concerts across the United States. From the Blue Note Jazz Club in Los Angeles to Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York, these performances are a visceral reminder of why this “mild-mannered maverick” remains in the driver’s seat of modern American music.
