Alternative trailblazer Tori Amos revisits her daring 2001 concept album ‘Strange Little Girls’ with an expanded edition, out now via Rhino Records. The Grammy-nominated project features Amos reinterpreting songs written by men, shifting each into a female perspective through 12 distinct personas she created. It remains one of her most conceptually ambitious works.
The expanded edition combines the original album and B-sides with two previously unreleased covers from the sessions, including Bruce Springsteen’s “Growin’ Up,” now available digitally. A vinyl pressing arrives with one of 12 alternate covers, each reflecting a different character Amos embodied, originally brought to life alongside makeup artist Kevyn Aucoin.
Recorded at her Martian Engineering studio in Cornwall with Matt Chamberlain, Jon Evans, Adrian Belew and John Philip Shenale, the album spans The Beatles, Depeche Mode, Tom Waits and The Velvet Underground. Amos’ transformation of Eminem’s “’97 Bonnie & Clyde” and Slayer’s “Raining Blood” stands as bold reinterpretation at its most fearless.
Debuting at No. 4 on the Billboard 200, the album earned Grammy nominations for Best Alternative Music Album and Best Female Rock Vocal Performance. Amos will tour the UK and Europe this spring in support of her 18th studio album ‘In Time Of Dragons,’ bringing her singular artistry back to the stage.
