Toadies have announced the release of their new studio album, ‘The Charmer’, arriving May 1 on Spaceflight Records. Recorded at Electrical Audio in Chicago with the late Steve Albini, the project represents one of the final unreleased sessions from the legendary producer. Frontman Vaden Lewis tracked the album using analog tape and razor blades, avoiding computers to preserve a raw, live sound. The title track originated from Lewis’s pandemic soul searching, where he personified long-standing internal struggles into the character of the Charmer. This slow-burning lead single is available today, offering a first glimpse into the band’s most defiant work to date.
Guitarist Clark Vogeler directed and edited the accompanying music video, which utilizes in-studio footage to document the band’s collaboration with Albini. The visual captures the group playing live in the room, mirroring Albini’s signature technique of capturing a band’s natural energy. Vogeler describes the footage as a significant record of the producer in his element, focused and tireless throughout the sessions. The release is supported by the Austin-based non-profit label Spaceflight Records, an organization founded by industry veterans including Brett Orrison and Eric Bice. This partnership ensures the record remains a product made entirely on the band’s own terms.
The band will support the release with an extensive North American tour beginning April 16 in Buda, Texas. The spring run features a rotating lineup of support from Local H, Vandoliers, and Sparta, with a special appearance by The Black Angels for a Dallas performance at Longhorn Backyard. Bassist Doni Blair describes the upcoming trek as a high-energy tour among friends and family. Following the spring dates, Toadies will continue through the fall with a featured appearance at the Louder Than Life Festival in Louisville on September 20. This comprehensive touring schedule brings the analog intensity of ‘The Charmer’ to stages across the country.
