Broken Social Scene have a new single, a new album on the way, and a massive North American summer tour locked in. “Hey Amanda” lands today, an anthemic, melody-forward track built around youthful rebellion and the band’s signature wall of voices. The collective describes it simply: “this is a song about being yourself, and how people will always question that.”

The single is the second preview of ‘Remember The Humans’, due May 8 via Arts & Crafts. The 12-track LP reunites the Toronto collective with producer David Newfeld, who helmed both ‘You Forgot It In People’ (2002) and their self-titled (2005). Dense arrangements, interlocking horns, guitars, electronics, and voices fill every corner of the record, yet the melodies hold firm throughout. It is rich, expansive, and unmistakably BSS.

The album carries real emotional weight. During recording, both Drew and Newfeld lost their mothers, a shared grief that shaped the sessions in ways that surface throughout the record. Collaborators including Feist, Hannah Georgas, and Lisa Lobsinger contribute throughout, reinforcing the collective authorship that has always defined this group. As drummer Charles Spearin puts it, Newfeld “has a childlike energy that is really contagious.”

Lead single “Not Around Anymore” arrived first, earning praise from Rolling Stone and Consequence. “Hey Amanda” builds on that momentum with anthemic force. These are songs with history and heart behind them, and they sound like it.

This summer, Broken Social Scene hit the road for the “All The Feelings” North American Tour alongside Metric with support from Stars. The run opens June 8 in Austin and closes August 7 with a homecoming show at RBC Amphitheatre in Toronto. Highlights include The Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, two nights at Brooklyn Paramount, and the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. Tickets are on sale now.
