Cat Power marks the 20th anniversary of her landmark album ‘The Greatest’ with the release of ‘Redux’, a three-song EP that revisits the spirit of the record while adding new perspective. The project is out now digitally and on limited 10-inch vinyl through Domino Recording Company.
At the center of the release is a striking interpretation of Prince’s “Nothing Compares 2 U.” Cat Power delivers the iconic song with quiet intensity, letting emotion lead the performance while honoring the song’s enduring legacy.
The recording also serves as a tribute to the late guitarist Teenie Hodges, a member of the legendary Memphis Rhythm Band who performed on ‘The Greatest’. Hodges formed a close musical bond with Cat Power, and the new version stands as a heartfelt nod to his lasting influence.
Recorded at Church House Studios in Austin with longtime collaborator Stuart Sikes, the EP features backing from Dirty Delta Blues. The lineup includes guitarist Judah Bauer, keyboardist Gregg Foreman, bassist Erik Paparozzi, and drummer Jim White.
‘Redux’ also includes a newly recorded version of James Brown’s “Try Me” along with a reimagined take on Cat Power’s own “Could We.” Together the three songs reconnect with the sound and atmosphere that made ‘The Greatest’ such a defining moment in Cat Power’s catalog.
