NOTHING Drops Acoustic Single “purple strings” Ahead of Massive World Tour

Following news of their new album, ‘a short history of decay’, shoegaze collective NOTHING has announced an expansive tour schedule that will take them across Japan, North America, and the UK before culminating in their self-curated Slide Away Festival. Alongside the tour announcement, the band has released a beautiful new song and video, “purple strings,” which offers a dramatic contrast to their previously released industrial-gaze track, “cannibal world.” While that track was a pulverizing statement of intent, “purple strings” is a stripped-down, acoustic guitar-led track with the band’s typical vocal filters completely absent; its dramatic turns are lifted by a full string ensemble, including performances from harpist Mary Lattimore, showcasing a stunning vulnerability.

The two singles lay the foundation for the wide-ranging sound of their forthcoming fifth studio album, ‘a short history of decay’, which is out February 27 via Run For Cover Records and is set to be their most sonically expansive and emotionally direct work to date. Recharged by a newly solidified lineup, the album captures frontman Domenic “Nicky” Palermo confronting aging, illness, and the weight of memory with startling clarity. The tour begins in Japan with Whirr this February, followed by a major North American headline run, a UK trek, and the multi-date Slide Away Festival in New York City, Chicago, and Los Angeles, where the band will celebrate the 10th anniversary of their seminal album ‘Tired of Tomorrow’ with special guests like Hum and Chapterhouse.
