Windsor-based quartet Talking Violet recently shared their latest single “Destroy” as a follow-up to their track “In Your Mind”. The four-piece band, consisting of Jillian Goyeau, Jayden Turnbull, Jeremie Brousseau, and Dylan Iannicello, continues to expand their self-defined dreamo sound by blending elements of shoegaze, grunge, and dream-pop. While their previous material examined the helplessness of watching others experience pain, “Destroy” functions as an internal exploration of acceptance and finality. The track stems from the same creative period as their ‘Everything At Once’ record, focusing on the complex reality that love and hurt often exist simultaneously within the same relationship. This song is a sonically expansive and incredibly moving piece of alternative rock.
Vocalist Jillian Goyeau describes the songwriting process as a necessary goodbye to a specific chapter of her life marked by interpersonal change. The lyrical themes address the struggle of disentangling personal identity from external relationships and the ongoing effort to move past people-pleasing tendencies. This new release arrived following a successful fourteen-week run on the NACC charts and significant airplay on SiriusXM’s The Verge. The instrumentation relies on lush, atmospheric textures and a powerful rhythmic foundation to convey a sense of raw, human catharsis. Talking Violet utilizes these expansive soundscapes to create a safe space for listeners navigating their own seasons of grief and healing.
