Laryngectomy Choir “Louder Than Before” Showcases Creative Expression Through Music

Linguist Simon Roper was invited to document a remarkable choir performance titled “Louder Than Before”, featuring people who have undergone partial or total laryngectomy due to throat cancer. The performance was organized by Shout at Cancer, a London-based non-profit founded by Dr Thomas Moors that combines speech training with music to support laryngectomy patients. The charity explores various creative expression avenues after voice box removal surgery, with choir singing serving as one powerful outlet for participants to reclaim their voices.
