To mark the release of their new album ‘The Mountain,’ genre-blurring art-pop collective Gorillaz unveil a sweeping animated short that unites three tracks: “The Mountain,” “The Moon Cave,” and “The Sad God.” Directed by Jamie Hewlett, Tim McCourt, and Max Taylor, the film follows the band’s avatars on a surreal journey across India, reflecting the album’s global textures and meditations on life, death, and what lies beyond.
Featuring contributions from Dennis Hopper, Anoushka Shankar, Amaan and Ayaan Ali Bangash, Asha Puthli, Bobby Womack, Black Thought, and more, the project blends spoken word, classical instrumentation, and expansive production into a vivid visual odyssey. The animation deepens Gorillaz’ long-running digital mythology while pushing their storytelling into new terrain, fusing contemplative themes with kaleidoscopic imagery.
