Fitness influencer and cancer researcher Stephanie Buttermore has died at the age of 36. The news was confirmed March 6 by her fiancé, science-based fitness creator Jeff Nippard, who shared a statement announcing the loss of his longtime partner.
“It is with profound sorrow that we share the sudden passing of Jeff’s fiancée and partner of ten years, Stephanie,” the statement read. “She will be remembered for her warmth and compassion, her love for her family, and her PhD research on ovarian cancer.” The message also asked for privacy as Nippard and those close to her process the loss.
Buttermore built a large global following through her fitness and wellness content, gaining more than one million YouTube subscribers and over 500,000 Instagram followers. Her work blended bodybuilding, science, and body-positive messaging, helping many viewers rethink their relationship with diet and training.
Beyond social media, Buttermore was also a cancer research scientist. She earned a PhD in pathology and cell biology with a focus on the molecular mechanisms driving ovarian cancer progression, an achievement that reflected her commitment to both science and public education.
Buttermore stepped away from social media in 2024 after speaking openly about severe anxiety. In her final public post, she explained that stepping back helped restore her mental health and allowed her to live more fully offline. Her legacy remains a combination of fitness advocacy, scientific achievement, and a message of compassion that resonated with a wide community.
