Steven Wilson Home Invasion: In Concert at the Royal Albert Hall 4K Ultra High Definition Released February 21, 2025

0

Steven Wilson has announced details of a live film – Home Invasion: In Concert at the Royal Albert Hall – available for the first time on 4K Ultra High Definition on February 21, 2025 via Mercury Studios. It was previously released on DVD and Blu-ray, packaged with the 2CD soundtrack of the show, in November 2018. The 4K can be ordered here.

At the end of March 2018, Steven Wilson played a sell-out three night residency at one of the world’s most iconic venues: London’s Royal Albert Hall. Coming at the tail end of a lengthy European tour, these concerts were the crowning achievement of an incredible seven-month period that began with the release of Wilson’s fifth album, To The Bone (“His best and most complete solo album yet” Classic Rock 4*). Released in August 2017, To The Bone charted at No 3 in the UK and went top 10 all over Europe, rapidly becoming the biggest selling record in Wilson’s singular thirty-year recording career.

The three Albert Hall shows saw Steven and his virtuoso band present the songs from To The Bone and many more from a deep dive into his extensive back catalogue as part of visually and sonically immersive experience. There, brain-twisting visuals met expansive 4D sound, making this most traditional of English venues feel like it was hosting a very different kind of Prom – more communion than concert. It wasn’t surprising that the Sun described the gig as “one of the best shows of the year – and it’s only March”.

Home Invasion: In Concert At The Royal Albert Hall captures the last show of the three-night run and includes nearly 3 hours of live performance in stunning Ultra High Definition. The concert film release is put together from footage filmed on multiple cameras from every conceivable angle in the auditorium and on the stage, and the sound has been specially mixed by Steven in both 5.1 surround sound and stereo. It’s the perfect document of one of the UK’s most uncompromising artists –  someone who remains “resolutely independent… the most successful British artist you’ve never heard of” (The Telegraph).

Home Invasion: In Concert at the Royal Albert Hall will be released on 4K Ultra High Definition on February 21, 2025.

1. Intro “Truth”

Elton John Unveils New Video for “Step Into Christmas” Starring Cara Delevingne

0

Elton John today unveils a brand new video for his Triple Platinum-certified Christmas classic, “Step Into Christmas.” – available to watch now on YouTube below. The new video reimagines what it was like behind the scenes for the now iconic original 1973 visual, starring British actress and model Cara Delevingne as Elton.

Over 50 years after Elton’s classic performance, the gloriously kitsch new video finds the video production team frantically trying to get the set ready for his arrival as they attempt to make it “Christmassy enough.” Despite the addition of a festive feather boa, balloons, and confetti, chaos reigns as they wrangle an escaped turkey, fail to book a real reindeer, and tackle a deranged fan who storms the set, all whilst Cara brilliantly mirrors Elton’s choicest dance moves and iconic facial expressions from the original video.

Cara’s star-turn in the video sees her fulfilling a lifetime ambition to step into Elton’s high-heeled boots. A lifelong fan and aspiring Elton wannabe from an early age, the pair have become firm friends over the years.

Elton says: “I saw Cara at Glastonbury last summer, and we talked about how much we’d love to work together if the right idea came up. She’s hilarious to spend time with; we both have quite a self-deprecating sense of humor. When someone suggested the idea of her playing me in a riff on the 1973 ‘Step Into Christmas’ video, I just thought it was the perfect opportunity. Thank God Cara thought the same because it came out great.”

Cara says: “Elton has always been an idol of mine, to say his music has had a deeply profound effect on me is an understatement. To be asked by him to PLAY him in this recreation was a dream that I didn’t know I had until it happened. Honestly, I wish I could pretend to be Elton every day. I hope that Elton may one day return the favor and agree to play me in my not-yet-developed, written, pitched, or funded biopic. Fingers crossed.”

Originally released on November 23, 1973, “Step Into Christmas” peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Christmas Singles chart in the US and No. 24 during its initial seven-week run on the UK Singles Chart. “Step Into Christmas” has returned over the past decade or so to become a seasonal favorite. It has spent a total of 44 weeks to date on the Billboard Holiday Airplay chart and, in the UK, has charted each December since 2011. In the 2020-21 winter season, the single obtained its highest position to date when it reached No. 8, three years after receiving the British Phonographic Industry’s Silver certificate (200,000 copies sold). Last year it was certified Triple Platinum by the BPI, 50 years after its release in 1973.

The reimagined video comes after Elton’s new documentary, Elton John: Never Too Late, premiered on Disney+ on Friday. Directed by R.J. Cutler and David Furnish, the documentary follows Elton as he looks back on his life and the astonishing early days of his 50-year career in an emotionally charged, intimate, and inspiring full-circle journey. Watch the trailer HERE. In November, Elton released the eponymous song ‘Never Too Late (From The Film “Elton John: Never Too Late”)’, which he co-wrote with eleven-time GRAMMY-winning US superstar Brandi Carlile. A collaboration between these long-time friends and artistic kindred spirits, Brandi was inspired to write “Never Too Late” after being deeply moved by an early cut of the documentary.

The Steve Martin Annual Banjo Prize Announces Two Winners for 2024

0

Steve Martin and the Board of The Steve Martin Banjo Prize have announced two winners for this year’s prize. Building on the Board’s mission to recognize excellence across the spectrum of banjo styles, this year’s recipients represent excellence in both clawhammer and 5-string bluegrass banjo styles.

Steve Martin will introduce viewers to the winners on December 17th at 5.30PM EDT on the Deering Banjo Company’s livestream show Deering Live broadcasting on their YouTube channel. Martin comments: “The acknowledgement of these unique and talented musicians continues to thrill me.”

The live stream will be co-hosted by board co-chair Alison Brown and will be co-posted on the Facebook pages of sponsors FreshGrass Foundation and Compass Records as well as No Depression, Folk Alley and the International Bluegrass Music Association. The program will include interviews and musical performances. Viewers can click HERE to watch the live stream.

The 2024 winners are Allison de Groot of Winnipeg, Canada and Tray Wellington of Wilkesboro, North Carolina. Each recipient will receive a $25,000 unrestricted cash prize.

Allison de Groot is one of the most highly regarded clawhammer banjoists on the North American folk scene. Born and raised in Winnipeg, Canada, she has deep roots in old time music and delights in bringing her own contemporary sensibility to the banjo tradition. Her playing is characterized by an ability to seamlessly navigate between delicate melodic lines and powerful driving rhythm adding an emotional depth to her sound. Allison is a frequent collaborator with notable musicians in the old-time and roots music scenes, including fiddler Tatiana Hargreaves with whom she recently received 2 Canadian Folk Music Awards and a Juno nomination. Along with performing and recording, teaching banjo has been a big part of Allison’s musical life, and the recent launch of her online teaching school on the ArtistWorks platform is a continuation of her educational pursuits. About the banjo, Allison says: “It still feels just as exciting as it did the first day I picked it up….I feel like I could live 100 lifetimes and explore the banjo.”

Tray Wellington is one of the most important new voices on 3-finger style banjo. He takes a forward-thinking approach to the instrument, subverting the whitewashed cultural touch points associated with the 5-string banjo by incorporating elements of jazz, bebop and hip-hop alongside his bluegrass roots. The result is an original vision for the instrument that blurs musical boundaries. Tray honed his skills playing bluegrass and old-time music in the southern Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina. He won the International Bluegrass Music Association’s Momentum Award in 2019 and, upon the release of his debut album Black Banjo, earned critical praise from tastemakers including The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times. In his live shows and on recordings, he charts new territory for the instrument through his original compositions and incorporation of unlikely covers. He says “Exploring had always been part of my personality since I was a kid! Music is the same way for me. Since I started playing banjo at 14, I had ideas for how I could constantly expand my musical vision and make my personality shine through banjo. Every day I am still on that journey and cannot wait to continue this pursuit”
