Dan Fogelberg & Tim Weisberg’s ‘No Resemblance Whatsoever’ Returns for 30th Anniversary Reissue

0

Omnivore Recordings has announced a reissue of Dan Fogelberg & Tim Weisberg’s No Resemblance Whatsoever, to be released on January 24. Mastered by multiple Grammy-winner Michael Graves and with lacquers cut by Jeff Powell at Take Out Vinyl/ Sam Phillips Recording Service, No Resemblance Whatsoever returns for its 30th anniversary on CD and, for the first time, on vinyl.

After being discovered by Irving Azoff, Illinois born singer-songwriter Dan Fogelberg moved to Nashville and began his recording career. His first four albums have achieved either platinum or double-platinum certification, including his fourth, Nether Lands—which included appearances by members of the Eagles, JD Souther, and flautist Tim Weisberg. Weisberg’s career began as a studio musician and he released his first solo album in 1971, even appearing on The Midnight Special.

In 1978, Fogelberg and Weisberg collaborated and released Twin Sons Of Different Mothers. The album featured the Top 25 hit “The Power Of Gold,” and sold over a million copies. The two would continue to write and record separately, with Fogelberg logging another two gold and two double-platinum releases, until the pair reunited in 1995 to record No Resemblance Whatsoever.

While the album’s title and artwork playfully referenced their previous release, No Resemblance Whatsoever displayed the musical growth both Fogelberg and Weisberg had achieved and brought back to their new effort. AllMusic said, “Follow-ups to albums that were as successful and acclaimed as Fogelberg and Weisberg’s first collaboration often seem forced or simply don’t replicate the magic of the past. This one builds on the original project and explores new musical avenues while keeping fans hoping another recording by the two will occur in the future.”

Pre-order No Resemblance Whatsoever here.

No Resemblance Whatsoever Tracklist:
1. County Clare
2. Forever Jung
3. Todos Santo
4. Sunlight
5. Isle Au Haut
6. The Face Of Love
7. Songbird
8. Is This Magic
9. Stasia
10. Windward

GRAMMY Museum Announces Free Admission For Ages 17 And Under Beginning January 25, 2025

0

The GRAMMY Museum announced today that on Jan. 25, 2025 it will begin offering free general admission for ages 17 and under. The new policy is anticipated to more than double the number of youths who visit the Museum’s galleries each year, which feature three floors of interactive exhibits and exclusive collections that showcase music’s biggest moments throughout the years.

Free admission for 17 and under was generously made possible by the Stengaard Gross Family Education Initiative through a donation made to the Campaign For Music Education, a fundraising campaign launched in 2022 whose primary objectives are to eliminate the financial burden to access music education and foster the next generation of music’s creators and leaders. The Campaign For Music Education has recently surpassed its fundraising goal of $5 million, and with this initial milestone now achieved, the GRAMMY Museum is announcing that it has doubled its fundraising goal to $10 million, which it hopes to reach in 2026.

Additional funds raised through the Campaign For Music Education will greatly expand the Museum’s education and community programs, which have served more than 550,000 students through programs such as GRAMMY Camp, GRAMMY In The Schools and the Quinn Coleman Scholarship Fund. The Campaign For Music Education is co-chaired by some of the biggest names in music, including Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, Bruno Mars, Shawn Mendes, and Rosalía.

“The GRAMMY Museum has always been committed to increase access to music education by reaching underserved communities where access to our Museum and programming could make a huge impact,” said Michael Sticka, GRAMMY Museum President and CEO. “Waiving admission for kids 17 and under will go a long way towards achieving that goal.” Sticka, who has been leading the Museum since 2018, just renewed his contract to serve in this role until 2029.

Additionally, as a result of the Campaign For Music Education, the Museum will unveil Sonic Playground, a new hands-on permanent exhibit opening next month. Featuring 17 music-making interactives, Sonic Playground is a groundbreaking space designed for visitors of all ages, regardless of their skills or knowledge, to be playful and creative through music. The interactive space allows visitors to play different roles in the music industry, from rapper, singer, and producer to performer, music supervisor, and voice actor, and discover the myriad ways they could pursue a career in the music industry. Sonic Playground is made possible by a generous donation from Deborah DeBerry Long, dedicated to the legacy of Jim Long. More details will be announced in the coming weeks.

Additional donors to the Campaign For Music Education include the Ray Charles Foundation, Deborah DeBerry Long, the Living Legacy Foundation, the Natalie Cole Foundation, and BeatHeadz.

The GRAMMY Museum, currently celebrating its 15th anniversary, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to celebrating and exploring music from yesterday and today to inspire the music of tomorrow through exhibits, education, grants, preservation initiatives, and public programming. Paying tribute to our collective musical heritage, the Museum values and celebrates the dynamic connection in people’s diverse backgrounds and music’s many genres, telling stories that inspire us, and creative expression that leads change in our industry.

Dave Navarro and Billy Morrison Announce Star-Studded “ABOVE GROUND” Benefit Concert in Hollywood

0

Guitarists Dave Navarro (Jane’s Addiction) and Billy Morrison (Billy Idol) have announced the initial artists who will join them for the January 25 “ABOVE GROUND” benefit concert at The Fonda Theatre in Hollywood, CA. The fourth iteration of the event will feature performances from Billy Howerdel (A Perfect Circle), Billy Idol, Duff McKagan (Guns N’ Roses), Elliot Easton (The Cars), Jerry Cantrell (Alice In Chains), Jerry Harrison (Talking Heads/ Modern Lovers), Josh Freese (Foo Fighters), Mark McGrath (Sugar Ray), Steve Stevens (Billy Idol) and Tommy Henriksen & Glen Sobel (Alice Cooper, Hollywood Vampires), with additional talent to be announced in the new year.

The ABOVE GROUND concerts have become known for celebrating the vinyl album as an art form with performances of two seminal albums in their entirety. This year will see Navarro and Morrison shining the light on the groundbreaking self-titled debuts by the New York Dolls (1973) and The Cars (1978) and other songs.

“Dave and I love albums that sit closer to the ‘art’ side of things, and that are a bit of a challenge to recreate,” Billy Morrison says. “We just do our best to honor the records, to get the parts and the tones correct, to not just hack through bad cover versions of these important songs. So, we don’t really try to put a ‘spin’ on them but rather present these albums as they were meant to be heard, every song in order, sounding as close as we can get to the original.”

“ABOVE GROUND 3 [2021] was a great success,” Dave Navarro says. “But I got really sick with Covid after that show. And it’s been over two years until I was well enough to get back on stage. And as I continue to heal, we thought this is the time! We have work to do and we need to remind people, especially through the holidays, that it’s ok to ask for help! I really look forward to getting on stage with my friends and recreating this seminal music while at the same time having some fun and raising money for MusiCares.”

“The need to shine a light on mental health doesn’t go away,” Morrison says. “And I think that Dave and I work so well together on these AG events that it just felt right to come back with the fourth show. We both have our own mental health battles on different levels and if we can help raise some funds and awareness, then we are doing a good thing.

“ABOVE GROUND” launched in 2018 and has featured Navarro and Morrison alongside a star-studded lineup of their friends including Jack Black, Corey Taylor, Anthony Kiedis, Juliette Lewis, Courtney Love, Billy Idol, Al Jourgensen, Steve Stevens, and many more. The events have highlighted full-length albums from legendary acts including Adam and The Ants, Lou Reed, The Velvet Underground, David Bowie, The Stooges, and Sex Pistols. Tickets are on sale now HERE.

Trombone Shorty has announced a number of key upcoming performances, as well as summer 2025 tour dates with his band Orleans Avenue. Trombone Shorty will be performing at The Super Bowl (FOX) on February 8 in his hometown of New Orleans, playing “America The Beautiful” with Lauren Daigle during the pre-game show. He is also performing at the CBS National Christmas Tree Lighting at the White House, which will broadcast on December 20, and performed last night at the Kennedy Center Honors, to celebrate recipient Arturo Sandoval, which will air on December 22 at 8:30PM ET on CBS / Paramount Plus.

Trombone Shorty also recently earned a fresh GRAMMY Nomination, for his appearance on Live At The 2024 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival by New Breed Brass Band, the New Orleans ensemble led by his nephew, Jenard Andrews (Best Regional Roots Music Album). Trombone Shorty is a GRAMMY-winner and now a four-time nominee: he earned a nomination in the same category last year for his work on New Breed Brass Band’s debut album, Made In New Orleans, which he produced and recorded at his Buckjump studio.

Today he has also announced a summer tour with JJ Grey & Mofro and Dumpstaphunk, stopping at major venues across the country in June and July including LA’s The Greek Theater (June 8), Chicago’s Salt Shed (July 12) and more. Tickets go on sale this Friday, 12/13 (10AM Local). The summer tour is in addition to the recently announced second annual Shorty Gras Tour in March 2025 with Tank and the Bangas. Fresh off a busy year of performances and a planned cultural exchange trip to Cuba, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue will deliver their signature high-energy performances over a three-week run of shows, bringing New Orleans’ famous Mardi Gras party to the East Coast, South and Midwest. The upcoming appearances and tour announcement arrives amid a packed year for the New Orleans icon and musical ambassador. From January 16-20, he will embark on the fourth Getting Funky in Havana cultural exchange trip to Cuba, alongside Orleans Avenue, young musicians from the Trombone Shorty Foundation, renowned Afro-Cuban star Cimafunk, George Clinton, Taj Mahal, Grace Potter, Yola and Robert Randolph. The cultural exchange will feature performances and collaborations between artists from New Orleans and Cuba, highlighting the deep-rooted musical connections between the two regions.

Over the past year, Trombone Shorty headed tours with Big Boi and headlined historic venues like the Hollywood Bowl. He also appeared at the White House’s Juneteenth Celebration, played a headline set with Lil Wayne at the Roots Picnic, made a special appearance at Madison Square Garden for the Soulshine benefit concert to aid recovery efforts in the wake of Hurricanes Helene and Milton, and once again closed out the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, a tradition he has led for over a decade.
