Last evening, Comic Relief US hosted “Comic Relief Live,” a star-studded affair harnessing the power of entertainment to build a just world, free from poverty. Hosted at Jazz at Lincoln Center, this one-of-a-kind event featured a laugh-inducing lineup of comedians, playful musical performances, and fun-filled special appearances to delight, inspire, and unite attendees around a common goal – creating a world of opportunity for everyone.

A highlight of the evening, comedy legends Billy Crystal, Whoopi Goldberg, and Robin Williams (posthumously) were honored with the inaugural Icon Award for their decades of using the power of comedy to catalyze social change for millions around the U.S. Crystal and Goldberg were present to accept the award, joined by Zelda Williams in a touching tribute to her father’s legacy.

“Using the power of comedy to tackle life’s problems has been a huge part of my life,” said legendary comedian, actor, and filmmaker Billy Crystal. “My partnership with Whoopi and Robin and all who made our shows successful is a highlight of my career and it’s truly special for us to be honored by Comic Relief US. During the program, revered auctioneer Lydia Fenet took to the stage as attendees made donations towards Comic Relief US. Comic Relief US has raised over $436 million in the last decade, positively impacting more than 35 million young people globally.

One truly special moment was hearing directly from Liam Lunkamba, a youth ambassador for Covenant House NY, a nonprofit providing safe spaces and new opportunities for young people.  A longtime grantee partner of Comic Relief US, Covenant House plays a vital role in moving young people from poverty and homelessness to a place of hope. Liam’s stories on the impact of their work around the world gave a powerful example of what’s possible when individuals and organizations come together to make a difference in the lives of others.

It Gets Better’s Youth Voices Name Chappell Roan as First-Ever “Joy Rebel of the Year”

It Gets Better, the world’s largest effort to empower LGBTQ+ youth, today announced Chappell Roan as its inaugural Joy Rebel of the Year.” The honor was bestowed upon “The Midwest Princess” by the organization’s Youth Voices, consisting of ten queer youth ambassadors from around the country, including two from the Midwest. This recognition comes at a time when queer and trans youth face a barrage of bigoted legislation, with more than 500 anti-LGBTQ+ bills introduced in 2024 alone and a slate of new attacks waiting in the wings. Through the Joy Rebellion campaign, It Gets Better highlights their resilience and defiance in the face of these escalating attacks on their rights and identities.

“With legislation targeting our very existence on the rise, LGBTQ+ youth may be facing relentless attacks – but no law, politician, or hate can strip them of their joy,” the campaign declares. “Joy is what keeps LGBTQ+ youth thriving, defiant, and full of life. And now, we need the LGBTQ+ community and its allies to rally around these kids more than ever.”

Chappell Roan embodies this spirit of rebellion and joy. In a column authored by the Youth Voices that premiered on Out.com, they describe Roan as “more than an artist who creates music we love to scream-sing; she’s a force of nature who shows us what it looks like to take up space unapologetically. Chappell’s music has opened up a space for conversations many of us have never had but honestly needed.”

Khruangbin and Lord Huron to Perform at the Second Annual Outside Festival on May 31 – June 1, 2025

Following the overwhelming success of last year’s event, the Outside Festival with presenting sponsors Capital One and REI Co-op will return to downtown Denver’s Civic Center Park, May 31-June 1, 2025. Bigger and better, this year’s event will feature a top shelf music lineup, films, speakers, outdoor sports, and much more. Tickets officially go on sale starting this Wednesday, Dec. 11 at 10 a.m. Mountain Standard Time.

Khruangbin, Lord Huron, Sylvan Esso, Trampled by Turtles, Neal Francis, Waxahatchee, Husbands, Hazlett, and other artists to be announced will perform on Saturday, May 31 and Sunday, June 1. In addition to live music, the Outside Festival has two full days of events with adventure film screenings, athlete panels and signings, climbing experiences, yoga classes, workshops, gear demos, a kids’ zone, exciting food options, and a variety of immersive brand engagements. The Outside Summit, a precursor to the Festival and the outdoor industry’s premier networking event attended by over 500 influential leaders, will return on Thursday, May 29, with a full day of programming on Friday, May 30, plus exclusive gatherings and Festival access over the weekend.

“We’re beyond excited to bring the Outside Festival and Summit back to Denver in 2025,” said Denver Mayor Mike Johnston. “Last year’s festival was a resounding success and we’re thrilled to once again spotlight Denver’s vibrant community and culture as one of the nation’s best cities to work, play, live, and visit.”

Last year’s inaugural Outside Festival attracted over 18,000 people and generated an estimated $16 million for Denver’s local economy. With a larger footprint in 2025, organizers this year are expecting more than 25,000 attendees. In addition to Civic Center Park, the event will expand to include Lincoln Veterans Memorial Park, as well as spaces inside the Denver Art Museum and the newly renovated Denver Public Library.

Colorado’s outdoor recreation economy accounts for $66 billion annually, and is a core part of what makes our city and state so successful and vibrant,” said Conor Hall, Director of the Outdoor Industry for the State of Colorado. “Bringing this event back to Colorado cements our place as a leader in this industry, and we’re thrilled to see everyone this spring.”

The event is managed by Boulder-based Outside Interactive Inc. with support from The State of Colorado’s Outdoor Recreation Industry Office and Visit Denver, and executive production by Groundswell Experiential, an industry-leading event and festival agency, and Superfly.

In Pollstar’s highly anticipated annual Year End issue, featuring the charts, in-depth industry insights, surveys, and more, it is confirmed that Taylor Swift has made history as the first artist to achieve a $2 billion-grossing tour, with a total gross of $2,201,107,485. Swift’s record-breaking 2024 gross of $1.04 billion and more than 5.2 million tickets sold across 80 shows during the reporting period, cemented “The Eras Tour” as an undeniable cultural phenomenon.
