Kathleen Edwards Announces Fall Americana Tour in Support of ‘Billionaire’

0

Acclaimed singer, songwriter, and performer Kathleen Edwards will continue her headline tour through the fall with newly confirmed stops at Boston’s Brighton Music Hall, Chicago’s Lincoln Hall, Ottawa’s Bronson Centre, Minneapolis’ Fine Line, Lexington’s The Burl, St. Louis’ Off Broadway, and Milwaukee’s Vivarium, among others. See below for the full tour routing.

Tickets for the new dates will go on sale this Friday, July 11, at 10:00 a.m. local time. Full details can be found at www.kathleenedwards.com/tour.

The tour celebrates Edwards’ highly anticipated new album, Billionaire—out August 22 on Dualtone Records (pre-order). Produced by Jason Isbell and Gena Johnson, the new 10-song project recalls the lyrical sharpness and unflinching candor of Edwards’ acclaimed debut, Failer. Ahead of the release, Edwards has shared three songs: “Say Goodbye, Tell No One,” “Pine,” and “Save Your Soul,” which is currently Top 10 and rising on the Americana radio chart and is poised to debut on the Triple A chart as well.

In addition to Edwards (vocals, acoustic guitar), Isbell (electric guitar, acoustic guitar, keys, synth, background vocals), and Johnson (engineer, piano, background vocals), the album includes Anna Butterss (bass), Annie Clements (bass), Chad Gamble (drums and percussion), Jen Gunderman (piano, celeste, Hammond B-3 organ, Wurlitzer), and Shelby Lynne and Allison Moorer (background vocals).

Of the album, Edwards shares, “I decided to call the record Billionaire because the word is used in such a caustic way these days. But we should all want to be billionaires in life—to be rich in experience, friendship, purpose, and the pursuit of the things that bring us joy.”

Of working with Edwards, Johnson shares, “Kathleen is as funny as she is deep. She loves to rock, have fun, and nerd out on guitar tones, which both Jason and I love to do as well. It was important to us to make sure we were featuring all the sides of her in the production of this album, from tracking to final mix. She totally thrived on the energy of the full band when we were in the studio and was also open to an idea I had for the song ‘Little Pink Door.’ That song ended up being a live one-take performance of Kathleen singing while playing acoustic guitar, accompanied by Jason on electric guitar and Jen Gunderman on piano. Both Jason and Jen were right there with her every single breath, only playing when it felt right. I remember when the take finished, Jason said he wouldn’t change a thing about it, and I couldn’t have agreed more. It’s in those moments when you know that something truly special is being made. I am so looking forward to attending a live show and experiencing both the energy and intimacy these songs and stories will bring to the audience.”

Celebrated as one of the forebears of modern alt-country and Americana music, Edwards is beloved by fans and fellow musicians and praised by The New York Times for her “droll, observant, and unsparing tone that is all her own. In her best lines, Edwards has the conversational vernacular and emotional eloquence of a great short-story writer.”

Since debuting in 2003, Edwards has released five albums, including 2020’s Total Freedom—her first after stepping away from music for almost a decade. Released to overwhelming acclaim, with pieces in The New Yorker, The New York Times, Rolling Stone, and more, Pitchfork called it “a creative breakthrough, written solely for the thrill of discovery,” while Rolling Stone declared it “devastatingly great.” Most recently, Edwards released a covers EP featuring special guests Isbell, Bahamas, and Daniel Tashian and including renditions of Isbell’s “Traveling Alone,” Bruce Springsteen’s “Human Touch,” The Flaming Lips’ “Feeling Yourself Disintegrate,” Tom Petty’s “Crawling Back to You,” and more. She has been nominated for multiple JUNO and Americana Awards and, in 2012, was awarded the SOCAN Songwriting Prize.

Gibson Celebrates 50 Years in Nashville With Limited-Edition Les Paul Music City Special

0

This year marks a major milestone for Gibson: 50 years of handcrafting guitars in the heart of Nashville, Tennessee. To honor this journey, Gibson introduces the Les Paul Music City Special – 50th Anniversary, a modern tribute to the creativity, heritage, and player passion that defines Music City. Available now at Gibson.com and Gibson Garage locations, this limited-edition model is capped at just 650 guitars per finish, worldwide.

Rooted in the design DNA of the iconic 1970s Gibson Marauder—played by legends like Adam Jones (TOOL) and Paul Stanley (KISS)—the Music City Special blends vintage character with modern sensibility. “We’re very proud to introduce the Music City Special,” adds Gibson Master Luthier Jim DeCola. “It pays homage to the Gibson Marauder of the 70s as well as the city it is named after. It has been reimagined as a straightforward, yet versatile and functional instrument relevant for today’s working musician.”

The Doobie Brothers Share the Origin of Their Name and Reflect on Legacy in Interview with Dan Rather

0

Patrick Simmons, Tom Johnston, and John McFee of The Doobie Brothers joined veteran journalist Dan Rather for The Big Interview in 2023 to share the origin of the band’s famously unconventional name. The conversation also touched on the enduring legacy of their hit “Listen to the Music,” how the group has functioned like a family over the decades, and how Michael McDonald’s arrival marked a turning point in their sound.

In the interview, the bandmates recount how their now-iconic name was suggested casually by a friend—and stuck. They also reflect on their favorite songs from the catalog, why “Listen to the Music” still resonates with fans, and how their shared history continues to define them.

Harold López-Nussa Fuses Latin Jazz and Psychedelia on New Blue Note Album ‘Nueva Timba’

0

On NUEVA TIMBA, the new Blue Note album from Cuban-born pianist Harold López-Nussa, the jazz vanguard meets multiple eras of Cuba’s musical history with results that are at once accessible, life-affirming, and strikingly accomplished. The album, which will be released Sept. 5, features a core of unmatched talent—Harold’s brother, Ruy Adrian López-Nussa, on drums; Luques Curtis on bass; and the harmonica virtuoso Grégoire Maret—and presents a definitive vision for the future of Latin jazz. López-Nussa has also shared the album’s lead single “Bonito y Sabroso,” a vibrant modernization of a Benny Moré classic that adds psychedelic hues with electronics and the beat-making of José Angel Blanco, a.k.a. El Negro WADPRO.

NUEVA TIMBA is the second album López-Nussa has recorded for Blue Note following 2023’s Timba a la Americana. A live/studio hybrid, it was captured at the club Le Duc des Lombards, a jazz institution in Paris, and then reshaped and enhanced in post-production. The project’s musical aim is twofold: documenting López-Nussa’s thrilling prowess as a live performer while also embracing the pristine audio and conceptual ingenuity that’s possible in the studio.

For all its virtuosity and innovation, however, NUEVA TIMBA is foremost a journey—a deeply personal narrative rooted in profound, often painful life changes that reflects López-Nussa’s recent move from Cuba to France. The album tells the very real story of a man displaced: a young father finding his way in a new country while missing his homeland with heartrending intensity; all the while, he’s nursing other emotional wounds including the passing of his mother, and the compounding torment brings him to a state of despair. Slowly but surely, sunshine begins to poke through the clouds, and he discovers a path forward. Something like happiness returns to the horizon. Consider NUEVA TIMBA musical tears of joy.

Lewis Capaldi Returns with Bold Single “Survive” and Donates 734,000 Therapy Hours Through BetterHelp Partnership

0

After two years away from the spotlight, Lewis Capaldi broke the silence and made a courageous return to music with his new chart-topping single “Survive” – a bold, brave anthem that addresses a challenging period in his career that peaked at Glastonbury in 2023. Capaldi cites therapy as the reason he was able to return to music, and he wants others to have access to the same support. To do this, he’s teaming up with BetterHelp, the world’s largest online therapy platform, to share his own mental health experience and give away 734,000 hours of free online therapy (honoring Capaldi’s 734-day break to focus on his mental health) – providing fans a free month of BetterHelp.

As part of the partnership, Capaldi released an exclusive video chat for BetterHelp chronicling for the first time his mental health experience during his two year break – including how he navigated anxiety and how mental health support got him to where he is today. In it, he shares how finding the right therapist and engaging in therapy has helped him to “feel the best he’s felt.” View the video here.

“Therapy is the reason why I am able to be a musician again,” said Capaldi. “I don’t think I’ll ever stop going to therapy after the impact it’s had on my life over the past two years. I want to support my fans as they’ve supported me, which is why I’m donating 734,000 hours together with BetterHelp.”

Capaldi said anxiety had “overtaken” him by the end of his 2023 tour – when his mental health challenges reached their peak. The Scottish superstar made the decision to step away from music and focus on his mental health. Capaldi has now come full circle, making a triumphant return to Glastonbury, with a surprise performance that made it clear he is not just surviving, he’s come back even stronger, watch here.

“We’ve seen through our data that globally 3 in 4 people agree that seeking mental health support is important, yet most people are afraid to ask for help,” said Sara Brooks, Chief Growth Officer of BetterHelp. “To have someone as globally recognized as Lewis Capaldi share so authentically how getting help through online therapy has transformed his life is incredibly powerful. We’re grateful to have Lewis speak up and use his platform to help break down the stigma of therapy.”

Ray LaMontagne Reschedules 20th Anniversary ‘Trouble’ Tour to 2026 Following Oral Surgery Recovery

0

Due to a lengthy healing process after an unexpected oral surgery, Ray LaMontagne’s 2025 North America Trouble 20th Anniversary Tour with The Weather Station has been rescheduled to 2026. All previously issued tickets will be honored only for their show’s new date. If you are unable to attend the rescheduled performance, please contact your original point of purchase for further assistance.

Find the full updated routing below and purchase tickets here.

The tour will see LaMontagne performing his seminal debut album Trouble in its entirety for the first time since its release. As part of the momentous 20th anniversary, LaMontagne has shared a special remastered vinyl edition of the album, marking the second full-length release on LaMontagne’s own Liula Records—purchase/share here.

Upon the album’s initial release in 2004, Trouble saw rave reviews from the BBC, who proclaimed it “A classic—listen incessantly,” echoed by NPR, which praised it as “timeless, cathartic and uplifting… LaMontagne has a hit debut record.” Drowned in Sound named LaMontagne “an artist who you have never heard of but has the potential to change your life in a moment,” while MOJO raved, “LaMontagne is blessed with a wood-smoky Paul Rodgers-meets-Norah Jones delivery, oozing the rough-hewn sensitivity of mid-’70s Marlboro ads and Kris Kristofferson movies… He’s something special indeed.” Trouble charted on the Billboard 200 and was certified Platinum by the RIAA.

The North American leg of the tour will see stops at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium, Toronto’s Massey Hall, and Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre, and will finish with three nights in New York at Beacon Theatre. The Weather Station will support. LaMontagne’s 2026 rescheduled shows in Toronto and Greenville, SC, will be announced at a later date.

In the UK and Ireland, LaMontagne will make stops at Dublin’s 3Olympia Theatre, Nottingham’s Royal Concert Hall, and London’s Royal Albert Hall and Eventim Apollo.

LaMontagne has spent the past two decades carving a singular space for himself in modern music. In a career that has seen overflowing critical acclaim, he’s opted out of the spotlight and its accompanying celebrity in the remote hills of western Massachusetts. The New York Times accounts: “Visiting Ray LaMontagne is like going back to another century.” His distinctive voice, described by Rolling Stone as an “impeccably weathered tenor croon,” continues to serve as a conduit for era-defining melodies and songwriting. Across nine studio albums, LaMontagne has let his songs and story speak for themselves, ringing a deep chord in the American subconscious.
